Michael S. Jacobs, M.D.
Michael S. Jacobs, M.D., is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology as well as cataract and implant surgery.

He received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Jacobs then completed an internship in general surgery followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Storm Eye Institute.
While completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia, Dr. Jacobs was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Summa Cum Laude with highest honors. Dr. Jacobs is now a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology practicing in the Athens area with affiliations at St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens Regional Medical Center, and the Surgery Center of Athens, where he served as Medical Director from 2016 to 2019. Outside of work, Michael cherishes being a father and husband, trail running, reading in solitude, and grilling on his Weber kettle.
Scotty L. Gadlin , M.D.
Scotty L. Gadlin, M.D., is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Gadlin has been trained in the latest techniques in cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, and surgery of the eyelids. He also specializes in treatment of Dry Eye Syndrome, Diabetes, and Macular Degeneration.

Dr. Gadlin graduated from the University of Georgia. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. Through outstanding performance in Medical School, Dr. Gadlin was awarded membership into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After medical school, Dr. Gadlin remained at the Medical College of Georgia where he completed his internship in Internal Medicine and his residency in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Gadlin has a passion for teaching and educating both patients and medical professionals. He is Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the UGA/GRU medical partnership. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Georgia Society of Ophthalmology
Dr. Gadlin is excited to be back in Athens with his wife, Kassandra, newborn daughter, and their two dogs. When not at work treating patients, Dr. Gadlin enjoys woodworking, and is a member of the Athens Woodworking Club.
Taylor K Ficek, O.D.
Taylor K. Ficek, OD is board certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and specializes in primary care optometry and contact lenses.

Dr. Ficek received her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Due to high academic and clinical achievements, she graduated Cum Laude and was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. In optometry school, Dr. Ficek was involved in Student Volunteers in Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH) where she served on the executive board and was passionate about going on mission trips internationally in order to provide eyecare to those in need. She is originally from Nebraska and completed her undergraduate degree at The University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a Bachelors in both Nutrition Sciences and Psychology.
Dr. Ficek completed her clinical training with an emphasis in refractive surgery and ocular disease at Woolfson Eye Institute in Atlanta, and Coastal Vision Center in Fernandina Beach, Florida. At Coastal Vision Center she interned closely with cornea and cataract specialists. Dr. Ficek enjoys traveling, watching Husker (and Bulldog) football and trying new foods.
Shelby A. Kruse, O.D.
Shelby A. Kruse, O.D., is board certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Kruse received her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN where she was awarded the Outstanding Clinician Award. Dr. Kruse then completed a residency in ocular disease and primary eye care at BronxCare Health Systems in Bronx, NY.

In optometry school, Dr. Kruse served as the National Secretary of the American Optometric Student Association, a Student Ambassador and Vice President of the Gold Key Optometric Honor Society. She was also involved in Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH) serving as a student doctor on four medical mission trips to provide international eyecare to those in need. Dr. Kruse has multiple published posters and enjoys giving continuing education lectures. As an optometry student, she completed internships focusing on ocular disease at Omaha Eye and Laser Institute in Omaha, NE and Coastal Vision Center in Fernandina Beach, FL.
Dr. Kruse is originally from Lincoln, NE and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she studied Nutrition Science and Psychology. She enjoys
